STEAM WITHOUT THE PRESSURE
At Colchester Prep and High School, we believe that happy and healthy pupils that feel part of a thriving, welcoming community are better prepared to achieve their full potential and to develop into confident, balanced and resilient young individuals. We achieve this by getting to know them as individuals, having good relationships with their families, offering them the right support and ensuring they have access to a wide range of physical and mental wellbeing activities.

Pastoral Care takes many forms at Colchester Prep & High School
A CARING AND INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
Our teachers truly know each child and build in them the confidence to succeed. Your child will be offered the support, praise and encouragement they need to flourish and their achievements will be celebrated.
A HOUSE SYSTEM THAT PROMOTES BELONGING
From the moment your child joins the school they will be placed into one of our School Houses: Saxons, Danes, Romans and Normans, providing them with a welcoming environment that makes them quickly feel part of the family.
In addition to representing their house in sports competitions, they will also have the opportunity to gain house points through good behaviour, leadership and academic achievement.
A FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THE WHOLE CHILD
Through our broad and balanced PSHE curriculum, our aim is to prepare your children to become a happy, confident, independent, engaged and responsible contributor to society.
A COMMITMENT TO YOUR CHILD’S WELLBEING
Sport is an intrinsic component of our curriculum, but your child will also discover additional wellbeing techniques such as meditation, yoga, connectivity and healthy eating to help them better manage the ups and downs of life.
Form Tutor and Pastoral Team
EXCELLENT PASTORAL CARE STARTS IN THE CLASSROOM
Our teachers know each child and is able to recognise problems quickly. The teachers can also call on additional support, via regular pastoral briefings with key school leaders, the school mental health leads and the Headteacher. Sometimes we might also offer one-to-one mentoring for a child, or peer mentoring where children can help each other.
Our Learning Support team also offers practical assistance and is a safe haven for children who need extra comfort.
